Often with eating disorders individuals disconnect from their bodies. Whether someone is denying their body signals of hunger with anorexia or denying their sensations of fullness with over-eating, they are separating themselves from their bodies. When there is dissatisfaction with the body, people typically want to avoid "being" in their bodies.
Yoga offers a gentle approach to connecting and appreciating the body. Through the connection with our breath we can become grounded and centered inside our bodies. With the movements and poses, an individual becomes more aware of each musle, their own strength and beauty. There becomes a softening to this amazing vessel that carries us through life.
Laura Sferra offers Yoga therapy on an individual or group basis. She offers an 8 week class called Body Appreciation through Yoga which is designed for beginners. Please call for more information.

Yoga Therapy
Yoga Therapy utilizes asana (postures), meditation and breath work to assist in the process of emotional issues. Current research supports the benefits of meditation and breath work in treating illnesses such as anxiety, phobias and stress. Yoga poses can be used to stimulate the nervous system, calm the nervous system and open areas in the body for emotional release. It can be weaved into traditional therapy for depression, anxiety, stress management, eating disorders and grief.
I have been a student of Anusara Yoga for over six years and I have experienced many benefits of Yoga physically, mentally and spiritually. I completed 200 hours of Yoga immersion and teacher training in 2009-2010 through Garden Street Yoga in Coeur d'Alene. I am now a registered Yoga teacher through Yoga Alliance. My hope is to share Yoga with others as another means to heal themselves.
